Hope you’re all staying safe during this seemingly
never-ending lockdown. I’ve been WFH a lot and busy with a couple of my freelance projects.
If you’ve been keeping up with my space, you’d know by now that I am in ♥♥♥love♥♥♥ with my Dyson Airwrap. The Dyson Airwrap has been a lifesaver! I used to have extremely damaged hair due to the constant heat from the hairdryer and a variety of heating tools just to get my hair to look somewhat decent. With the airwrap, not only do I get to save so much time getting my locks styled, but my hair is also a lot healthier and shinier plus I’ve noticed that my hair is shedding a lot lesser too! You can read more about my review on this amazing styler here.
Anyway, awhile ago, Dyson has came up with additional barrel attachments sizing at 30mm and 40mm. The main difference with the existing attachments is that the new barrels are 50% longer with the design intention to shorten the curling time for longer hair. I proceeded with the purchase of the new 40mm barrel attachment with hopes that it will speed up the curling process for my long hair.
The barrels arrived pretty quickly, about a week after I placed my order on the official website. The 40mm long barrels amounted to RM199 inclusive of delivery. My first impression of the barrels was that it feels quite solid, similar to the existing 40mm short barrel.
My thoughts on the 40mm long barrel?
After having used both the short and long barrels, I noticed that my hair curling routine has shortened ever so slightly with the long barrel but not by a lot. a good five minutes, perhaps? As I have long & thick hair, the longer barrel definitely does a better job and holding my hair in comparison to the shorter barrel which results in a slightly looser curl. My least favourite part about the long barrel is that I find it a bit bulky and more difficult to manoeuvre but this could also be due to the fact that I still haven’t gotten the hang of it yet.
So, is the Dyson 40mm long barrel worth it?
Honestly, not to me at least. It didn’t save a significant amount of time in terms of styling. Also, in terms of the type of curls produced, I genuinely cannot tell a difference. Unless, you are always in a rush and have super long hair, i’d recommend the long barrels, or else I’d say just save your money and stick to the short barrel!
